The Carrick Hill board announced today that Susan McCormack has been appointed as the new Director.
Susan McCormack is a cultural leader with extensive international experience in museums, galleries and the higher education sectors including the Victoria & Albert in London and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, UK.
She has a wide-ranging knowledge of cross-cultural, historic and contemporary collections, innovative public programming, audience engagement and placemaking.
As Senior Curator and Head of Contemporary Programs at the V&A, she pioneered a popular and critically acclaimed program of exhibitions, commissions, and live events, covering all aspects of contemporary culture and connecting new audiences to the historic collections.
When Director of Public Engagement at the Ashmolean, she was responsible for exhibitions, public programs, learning, communications, interpretation, digital and design.
‘This is a very exciting time for Carrick Hill,’ Carrick Hill Trust Chairman Peter Kennedy said, ‘Susan, through her extensive experience in developing new forms of programming, galleries and major exhibitions, will enable us to engage with a wide range of different audiences and develop local and national partnerships.’
Born and raised in Adelaide, Susan has a BA in Art History and Australian Studies from the Australian National University, Canberra and is a graduate of the Getty Leadership Institute.
At the University of Oxford she was on the Said Business School Oxford Cultural Leaders Faculty and a research collaborator with the Medical Sciences Division’s Dept of Psychiatry, to explore and understand the long-term benefits of creative health and wellbeing.
Her work has attracted sector and community recognition and numerous awards. Susan McCormack is currently the Head of Development at Carrick Hill. She will commence her new role on 1 October 2022.
