Carton Deli is the new CBD eatery serving up sandwich flavour combos of your dreams

Sitting on Pulteney Street, Carton Deli has a small menu with big flavours focusing on deli sandwiches and good quality coffee.

A new deli has snuck onto the scene in the CBD but you’d be forgiven if you’d missed it. The minimalist shop front is modest and unassuming and if wasn’t for the tables full of people occupying the outdoor area every morning, you may have barely noticed the new resident.

Taking over the old Dunfor Noodle Bar on Pulteney Street overlooking Hindmarsh Square, Carton Deli is focusing on two things: Coffee and sandwiches. The menu is small but well versed covering all the bases with a selection of unique, mouth-watering flavour combinations.

The inaugural menu sees choices range from Korean Fried Chicken with wombok and Kewpie mayo to Turkish eggplant with sultanas and red pickles. But it’s the ‘HCP’ that is getting people talking. A ham and mozzarella toastie topped with a bruleed pineapple mustard that blows all other ham and cheese toasties out of the water.

The HCP

A regular of the hospitality scene since he was 15, Carton Deli owner, Zac Schneider, wanted to steer away from the traditional café scene and instead offer something a bit different, focusing on the parts of the industry he loves and incorporating the best parts of his long hospo career into his own.

Joined by ex-Shosho chef, Connor Fletcher, and Duane Tilka of Clutch, the team have created a rotating roster of sandwiches to not only keep things fresh and interesting for the customers but to also keep their own creative juices flowing.

With the main focus on morning and lunch trade, of course, coffee is key. Zac has a deep love for a good ol’ cuppa Joe that stems from his time spent as a barista and aims to make specialty coffee more approachable to those who want to branch out from their regular order but aren’t quite sure how. Zac has chosen beans from local Adelaide roastery, Kindred, and will also offer his own spin on hot chocolates with house-made marshmallows.

For those who are familiar with the old noodle house that stood in its place before, you’ll notice that not much has changed structurally. Keeping in theme with the menu, the whole ethos of Carton Deli is quality over quantity. Simplicity at its best.

Carton Deli is located at 62 Pulteney Street, Adelaide and is open from 7am – 3pm Mon – Fri.
