Everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic cat is taking to the stage! With the winter school holidays almost upon us, keeping the kids entertained is taken care of with the Dr Seuss stage show, Cat in the Hat Live!
Seuss’ 200-word original story Cat in the Hat is a childhood classic that has stood the test of time since its publication in the late 1950s. Originally adapted into an imaginative play for the stage by the National Theatre of Great Britain and presented by Music Theatre International (Australasia), this zany live show tells the familiar story of two bored siblings Sally and Sam at home on a rainy day, who receive a visit from a stranger… a very silly cat in a red and white striped hat.
As the rascally twin friends of the bow-tie wearing cat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 add chaos to the mix, the siblings’ outspoken and outraged pet Fish can only watch on in horror as the brother-sister duo get swept up in the messy ride!
As our winter own sets in, Dr Seuss’ writing reminds audiences of the importance of imagination on dreary winter days: “It’s fun to have fun, but you have to know how!”
With the bright colours of the costumes, sets and props that look like they’ve jumped straight out of the original Seuss books, audiences will be captivated by this childhood classic as it takes to the stage.
