The Adelaide Fringe Festival is ready to captivate audiences with a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience as it hosts the exclusive Aboriginal play, ‘Trail’s End’, for four exclusive shows only. For those seeking a deep, cultural immersion, ‘Trail’s End’ stands out as this year’s only Aboriginal theatrical performance at the Adelaide Fringe.
Starring the compelling duo Dylan Miller and James Goodliffe, this family-friendly, one-hour narrative delves into the themes of family, grief, and identity through the lens of Aboriginal culture and traces the emotional odyssey of two half-brothers, Sam and Jamie, as they embark on a reflective journey through the bush.
Marking their mother’s passing, this camping trip reveals a love for shared music, unveiled fears and long-kept secrets, and the audience is invited to witness the complexity of Sam’s struggle to reconnect with his Aboriginal roots, and Jamie’s seemingly effortless life, leading to a climactic secret that threatens the fabric of their brotherhood.
Writer and producer Jannali Jones, a Gunai creative force, expresses her enthusiasm.
‘The response we’ve received to date has been very positive. It’s been great to see that there is an appetite locally for Aboriginal storytelling through theatre. We’ve also been fortunate to have support from the Adelaide Fringe Fund and Creative Australia’, says Jones.

The production is a testament to cultural authenticity and sensitivity, with a creative team composed of Aboriginal talents like Narungga dramaturg Kyron Weetra and Gunai production designer Cassandra Anderson. This commitment ensures that ‘Trail’s End’ is both a play and cultural dialogue that resonates with truth and heart.
‘Trail’s End is just the beginning’, says Jones. ‘We want to help build a greater presence of First Nations theatre in Adelaide. There is already so much talent here to be proud of and so many stories worth telling. The dream is to one day see an Adelaide-based Aboriginal theatre company in some form.’
‘Trail’s End’ is a must-see for anyone who cherishes powerful storytelling and supports the growth of First Nations theatre. The show is tailored for audiences who appreciate profound narratives and cultural exploration, promising an experience that is as enlightening as it is entertaining.
