Celebrate all things Japan as AnimeGo! Festival returns to Adelaide

Back for its seventh year, the one-day event is part of OzAsia Festival coming to Adelaide in October and will showcase the best of Japanese culture.

It’s one of the most popular forms of animation across the world with millions of people bonding over their passion for the Japanese medium, which probably explains why the annual AnimeGo! Festival is so popular.

Now in its seventh year, the one-day pop culture event brings both Anime diehards and newfound fans to celebrate everything cool and quirky about Japan. This obviously includes anime but also the food, fashion and feel that make Japanese culture so unique.

Brought to you by the Japan Australia Friendship Association, organisers hope to change common misconceptions of the country by recreating the matsuri atmosphere and moving away from more traditional formats.

As part of the larger OzAsia Festival that is returning to Adelaide this spring, you can be transported to the streets of Tokyo and dine on freshly cooked yakitori or Takoyaki, try your hand at karaoke and enjoy J-Pop performances across one afternoon of fun.

Arcade games on Side B will test your skills and you’ll have a front-row seat to incredible films with the announcement of the AnimeGO!4-koma and short anime feature finalists on the day. This year’s theme of ‘Sensei’ encourages entrants to tackle the importance of mentors, teachers that guide and nurture through their feature.

Costumes are encouraged with cosplay a huge part of AnimeGo! You’ll also have access to workshops, and competitions from local dance and creative art communities, AnimeGO!is the best way to spend your Sunday at OzAsia Festival.

This year’s OzAsia Festival will see more than 500 community, national and international artists from more than 8 countries, and includes 10 world premieres, one Australian premiere and seven Adelaide premieres, across 50 ticketed and free events and exhibitions.

AnimeGo! Will take place on Sunday October 30 at Adelaide Festival Centre.
