Falafel is genuinely one of my favourite things. It’s the perfect filling for wraps, salads, or even just to dip in hummus and munch on. Today is International Falafel Day, and here at Glam we’re celebrating by sharing the story behind Central Market Store Real Falafel (and letting you in on the fabulous deal on offer today).
Real Falafel is brightly coloured, standing loud and proud amidst its fellow stores. Refugee entrepreneur and co-owner, Mitch Aldawsari, fled Saudi Arabia after facing persecution for his sexuality. He has since made it his mission to foster inclusivity and love through his falafel making. Indeed, the philosophy of Real Falafel is, “create peace and love through food.”
“My dream was to open a traditional falafel bar in Adelaide,” says Aldawsari. “I wanted to create something that represented my home whilst also symbolising inclusivity and awareness of the gay community.”
This traditional, Middle Eastern fusion falafel bar is located in both the Central Market, and at Plant 4 Bowden. The falafel dished out is gluten free, nut free, and dairy free. All food is vegetarian, and most is vegan. The founders of the company have taken inspiration from some of the best falafel bars in Israel, Dubai, Sydney, and Saudi Arabia, with Aldawsari also bringing his grandmother’s recipe to the kitchen.
Given it is International Falafel Day, the Real Falafel team is offering 50% off all falafel products in store from 8:45 to 5pm.
