International Women’s Day is just around the corner, and to celebrate the successes of trail-blazing women in the arts, the Art Gallery of South Australia have curated a tremendous lineup of presenters to hear from, and there’s a delicious breakfast to tuck into as well.
To start the day, Aunty Elaine Magias will hold a powerful Welcome to Country ceremony before handing over to the morning’s MC: broadcaster, columnist and public speaker Amanda Blair. Amanda has held numerous board member positions with independent health and arts organisations, and was the founding board member of the Art Gallery of South Australia’s Contemporary Collector. A radical woman not to be messed with, Amanda will keep things real while exploring the stories of radical women past and present.

Curator and historian Rebecca Evans, a well-known advocate for the inclusion of pockets in women’s clothing, will be discussing her specialty knowledge of fashion and textiles, and Leigh Robb, the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia and co-curator of the current Radical Textiles exhibition, will touch on her radical approach to curating, collecting and exhibition-making.

Artist Stavroula Adameiti, AKA Frida Las Vegas, will also be speaking. Known for her bold and vibrant textiles, neon artworks and installations, Adameiti nostalgia with a graphic sensibility drawn from her memories, celebrating the iconography of the past to reimagine a more colourful and joyful present.

And beyond the exciting lineup of speakers to hear from, there’s also a delectable breakfast on offer. To start, participants can enjoy fruit platters and an assortment of bircher muesli, green apple, toasted almonds, mango and coconut chia seed pudding, mixed berries and yoghurt, and potato blinis with smoked salmon and herbed crème fraiche. There will also be a range of danishes to nibble on.
Moving onto the mains, choose from a selection of avocado toast with Aleppo pepper, blue swimmer crab and sweet corn soldiers, sun-dried tomato and spinach Frittata pintxos, chorizo and red pepper frittata pintxos, and egg and ham breakfast sliders with tomato relish.
For $150 per person, or $125pp for groups of 10, the Art Gallery’s International Women’s Day Breakfast is gearing up to be one of the must-see events on the calendar.
And while you wait, the Art Gallery’s Radical Textiles exhibition, co-curated by Leigh Robb, is currently showing in Galleries 22, 23, 25 until March 30th.
