Celebrate teen songwriters of 60s rock ‘n’ roll in Fringe show ‘Simply Brill’

Journey back to NYC’s 1960s music scene with Adelaide’s own award-winning performers in Fringe show, ‘Simply Brill’.

As the Adelaide Fringe Festival rolls into town, a standout show is poised to capture the hearts of nostalgic music lovers is ‘Simply Brill: The Teens Who Stole 60’s Rock n Roll’—a returning smash-hit that’s ready to dazzle audiences once again with its vibrant celebration of the teen songwriters who revolutionized rock’n’roll.

Held at Gluttony’s The Octagon from February 17th to March 17th, this show is a must-see for anyone with a penchant for the golden era of music and stars local cabaret icons Amelia Ryan, Michaela Burger, and Michael Griffiths.

‘Simply Brill’ is not only a fantastic musical tribute, but a dramatic retelling of the stories behind legendary songwriters like Neil Sedaka, Bobby Darin, Carole King, Cynthia Weil, and Ellie Greenwich. These are the brilliant minds behind timeless classics such as ‘Rock Around the Clock’, ‘Splish Splash’, ‘You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling’, and ‘River Deep Mountain High’, to name just a few.

The setting for this musical journey is none other than The Brill Building—the iconic New York landmark known as a ‘one-stop-shop’ hit factory where the soundtrack of the 20th century was penned, and the show pays homage to these musical geniuses with a backdrop that is as historically significant as the tunes themselves.

Amelia Ryan, not just a star of the show but also its writer and creator, has shared her enthusiasm for ‘Simply Brill’.

‘Simply Brill is a thrilling celebration of the early years of rock’n’roll and how music and popular culture was forever changed, all within the walls of The Brill Building’, says Amelia. ‘It’s a dynamic blend of history, humour, and heart.’

What sets ‘Simply Brill’ apart is its blend of vocal brilliance from Amelia, Michaela, and Michael, accompanied by a live 5-piece band. This combination promises to bring the audience an immersive experience and an opportunity to relive the magic that these teen songwriters brought to the world, performed by some of today’s most talented cabaret artists.

Produced by Amplified House, the new production company founded by Amelia and Zac Tyler, Simply Brill is part of a broader vision to create world-class music, cabaret, and events both locally and internationally. Following the success of their previous Fringe favourite, 27 Club, Amplified House aims to continue its streak of hit shows with ‘Simply Brill’.

‘We can’t wait to get the band back together to perform these hits and share this really incredible story. We guarantee everyone will leave the show with a spring in their step’, says Amelia.

‘Simply Brill: The Teens Who Stole 60’s Rock n Roll’ is perfect for anyone who loves rock’n’roll, is fascinated by music history, or simply enjoys a night out filled with great tunes and compelling stories. It’s an all-ages show that will resonate particularly with those who hold a special place in their hearts for the music of the ’50s and ’60s.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the era or a younger music lover keen to discover the roots of modern rock and pop, ‘Simply Brill’ offers something for everyone, so grab your tickets now and experience one of the best musical shows at this year’s Fringe.
