Celebrate the sweetest fundraising event with National RSPCA Cupcake Day

August is the month RSPCA calls on animal lovers to don aprons and get cooking for the charity’s annual Cupcake Day.

This year it’s up to participants to decide what August day to stage their event, and it doesn’t have to be cupcakes – so long as it’s home-cooked it fits the criteria.

“You can make brownies, slices, quiches, muffins, donuts – some people even make soup to share,” said RSPCA South Australia’s Fundraising Manager, Cassandra Barendregt.

“Something warm to eat is welcome in winter, whether you’re at work, at school or home with family and friends, and it’s always special when someone cooks for you.”

Everyone who registers for RSPCA’s Cupcake Day receives online access to all the resources needed to host a memorable event. As further incentive to fundraise, participants can vie for prizes including an espresso coffee machine and vouchers from The Good Guys.

There are currently more than 700 animals in RSPCA’s care in SA, most of them at the organisation’s main shelter at Lonsdale.

“The animals that come to us often aren’t ready to be available for adoption straight away,” Ms Barendregt said.

“Some need veterinary treatment and time to recover, others are too young to rehome immediately and some have behavioural issues that need time, patience and skill to address.

“All this life-saving work is covered by donations from our supporters – Cupcake Day gives the home cooks among our animal loving community the chance to put their skills to good use for a very good cause.”
