Lantern Festival to light up The Thai Guy this Friday and Saturday with food & drink specials, live music and more

This weekend, The Thai Guy is bringing a taste of Northern Thailand’s Yi Peng Lantern Festival to Adelaide with a special two-day event.

This weekend, The Thai Guy is bringing a taste of Northern Thailand’s Yi Peng Lantern Festival to Adelaide with a special two-day event at their Magill Road restaurant in Kensington Park. On Friday November 15th and Saturday the 16th, coinciding with the 12th full moon of the year, The Thai Guy will celebrate this time of renewal and reflection – an occasion that is all about releasing the misfortunes from the year before, and stepping into the new year with hope and light.

While we can’t release lanterns into the sky here in SA like they do in Thailand, The Thai Guy has created a unique celebration that truly captures the spirit of Yi Peng. The event also marks the grand opening of the restaurant’s newly renovated courtyard, now featuring a stunning mural of a bustling Bangkok market scene.

On both Friday and Saturday night, the event will see a special menu of six delicious dishes at discounted prices, cocktail specials, and live music. The restaurant and courtyard will be adorned with hanging lanterns to create a special atmosphere. Plus, each guest will receive their own lantern to make a wish and hang it in the restaurant as a symbol of embracing new beginnings.

For families, the Saturday lunchtime session will be the perfect way to celebrate together. In addition to the lantern decorations, a special menu, and live music, children will have the opportunity to get creative at an art workshop, where they can make their own lanterns. Face painting will also be available to add to the fun!

If you’ve ever wandered the vibrant streets of Bangkok, you’ll know how the city comes alive with a mix of colours, sounds, and smells. The sizzling of skewers, the hum of busy traffic, and the clatter of woks all combine to create an experience like no other. That’s the kind of energy and atmosphere The Thai Guy has brought to Adelaide.

The restaurant has been created by Terry Intarakhamhaeng, who first opened the popular Thai restaurant Soi 38 in 2014, and the now-closed Fire. With The Thai Guy, Terry brings together the flavours of Bangkok street food with charcoal cooking and a laid-back vibe.

The Yi Peng Festival at The Thai Guy this weekend is an event you won’t want to miss! With delicious food, live music, and the warmth of tradition, it’s a special way to celebrate, whether you’re with friends, family, or on your own.
