Adelaide girl Lauren Krelshem has been battling leukemia since the age of 13. Being in and out of hospital for a lifetime is not only hard physically but emotionally too. Now on the eve of her 21st birthday, a social media campaign organised by her friends to lift her spirits has gone viral, and no one could have expect the effects.
Japanese legend states that if you fold 1000 origami paper cranes you will be granted one wish. Lauren set out to get her wish whilst receiving her treatment in hospital, little did she know the helping hand she was getting behind the scenes.
Lauren’s friend Jen Frith began a private Facebook group encouraging her friends to fold an origami crane to add to Lauren’s collection for her 21st birthday. Yesterday, upon the big reveal she was overwhelmed by the some 20,000 cranes that had been folded as her surprise.
Celebrities such as Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Ponting, Hamish and Andy, Guy Sebastian, Grant Denier, Ruby Rose, Margot Robbie, Matt Lucas and Noah Taylor all got on board the campaign making a truly incredible ripple through the social media world.
As group creator Jen stated, “the more cranes the more wishes right?” Well now the beautiful Lauren has been blessed with 20 wishes for a healthy and happy future. Here at Glam we’re wishing Lauren a very happy 21st birthday, and all the strength she needs to keep smiling in the face of adversity. We’re also frantically watching this ‘How To’ video on paper cranes, but so far our efforts have been dismal! We’ll keep you posted on that one!
