PREPARE TO LEAVE: CFS continue to battle Deep Creek bushfire

A Watch and Act warning is in place for the Deep Creek bushfire, with the blaze uncontrolled and moving towards multiple roads and local areas on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Update at 10:23pm – DEEP CREEK Bushfire – Watch and Act – Prepare to Leave

This warning replaces the previous Emergency Warning, with a Watch and Act – Prepare to Leave message issued at 10:23pm on Monday 2 February for Deep Creek, Silverton, Blowhole Beach Road and Cape Jervis. Residents are advised to prepare to leave now, check that evacuation routes are clear, and move to a safer place if needed. The public is urged not to enter the area, as conditions remain dangerous and are continuing to change.

The Deep Creek bushfire remains uncontrolled, with the scrub fire burning in a west north westerly direction towards Cape Jervis, Silverton, Deep Creek and Main South Road, north-west of Deep Creek National Park. Fire behaviour remains unpredictable, and authorities warn the situation may escalate quickly depending on conditions.

CFS, with support from Department for Environment and Water, Forestry SA and SA Metropolitan Fire Service, currently have more than 250 firefighters working to contain the fire and protect assets with multiple structures currently under threat. This includes protecting the township of Cape Jervis and surrounding communities, various rural properties and other important infrastructure. Additional personnel will come from across the state to provide further support this morning.

Firefighters have halted the immediate spread of the fire towards Main South Road and Fishery Beach Road. However, the fire remains uncontrolled and is burning on multiple fast-moving fronts.

Crews have been completing backburns to contain this fire before a predicted wind change which may cause unpredictable fire activity.

There is a warning message issued for this fire. Please stay informed through the CFS website (cfs.sa.gov.au) or Alert SA app.

Those in the impacted areas are encouraged to enact their bushfire plans and stay informed as this situation continues to be unpredictable and can change quickly.

Main South Road remains closed between Cole Road, Delamere to Cape Jervis. Talisker Road, Rarkang Road, Range West Road, Tent Rock Road, closed south of the intersection with Three Bridges Road. Blowhole Beach Road.

The public may notice a lot of smoke extending across to Kangaroo Island and the Yorke Peninsula. As a precaution residents who suffer from respiratory or cardiac conditions may wish to consider closing all doors and windows and remaining indoors.

Smoke from this fire may also be impacting surrounding areas and emergency services will continue working on and around roads. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

The western part of Deep Creek National Park remains closed, and Talisker Conservation Park is fully closed. Visitors should remain alert and stay informed.

A CFS staging area is operating at the Yankalilla Showgrounds, and Yankalilla Oval is being used for aviation operations. The public is asked to stay clear of these areas.

The fire was first reported at around 4:40pm on Sunday, burning in grass and scrub in steep, inaccessible terrain within Deep Creek Conservation Park, adjacent to Blowhole Beach Road and west of the Goondooloo Ridge Track. The fire has split into two separate fronts, burning on both sides of Blowhole Beach Road.

REMINDER: PLEASE DO NOT FLY DRONES ANYWHERE NEAR THE FIRE, as it will prevent air support and put CFS crews at risk.
