Several extreme weather warnings have been issued across the state, with South Australian’s urged to stay vigilant of high fire risk and dust storms by both the CFS and South Australia Police.

The CFS is warning the community to expect very high fire danger weather across parts of the state today, with State Duty Commander Brett Loughlin saying that while the forecast conditions don’t warrant total fire bans, the community still needs to remain vigilant.

“Last week we saw a fire that escalated to Watch and Act at Gould Creek. Parts of the state are extremely dry and while we might experience hot weather, the dry fuels and wind will be enough to see a fire quickly catch and take off,” he says.

SDC Loughlin is encouraging everyone to check that any burn offs or campfires are fully extinguished, and to hold off any risky behaviours such as using angle grinders or sparking cutting tools.

In a post to Facebook today the South Australia Police have urged travellers on the Eyre Peninsula to be cautious of a dust storm currently ravaging the area.

“Anyone currently on the road or planning on travel on the Eyre Peninsula today, please take care while driving due to dust storms in the area. Visibility on the Lincoln Highway between Cowell and Arno Bay is particularly affected,” the post reads.

Thankfully, rainfall forecast over parts of the state on Tuesday will see the immediate fire danger threat subside.

Stay safe South Australia!
