Twenty-fourteen is shaping up as a bumper year for South Australia’s favourite home lottery the Channel 9 Telethon Distinctive Home and Land Lottery as it achieves a number of significant milestones and looks to set a few more…
The annual lottery will offer its 50th home and land package this year, with the top prize lottery home being the 21st designed, built and fully donated by Distinctive Homes – and there’s a very real chance that the funds raised will top the magic $1-million mark for the first time in 2014.
Announcing the new program and beneficiary charities ahead of the official launch early next month, Channel 9 Telethon Project Coordinator Josie Meyer said with major milestones to commemorate and new records within grasp, 2014 will certainly be a year of celebration.
“Over the Channel 9 Telethon Lottery’s half-century, we have raised some $15.6-million in support of almost 150 local charities, many of whom are annual beneficiaries,” she said.
“We also came close to reaching the $1-million mark last year and with a $10 ticket giving buyers the chance to win the bonanza prize of a dream home valued in excess of $450,000 in the ground-breaking ‘Playford Alive’ multi-use community development in Adelaide’s north, we’re confident we can do it in what promises to be a special year.
“Our generous major sponsors, Distinctive Homes, Renewal SA, Taste Furniture and Supreme Kitchens have combined to come up with a first prize that’s sure to resonate with the public – a tastefully furnished and fashionable family home in a vibrant community of schools, parks, wetlands and a town centre.”
The Channel 9 Telethon Distinctive Home and Land Lottery runs from July through to the end of November, with the winner drawn at Channel 9’s North Adelaide studios on December 4.
It will again raise much-needed funds for 21 of the State’s most worthy and respected charities, among them newcomer RSL SA and its ‘Dogs for Diggers’ trauma treatment program that successfully pairs war veterans with assistance dogs trained to help defuse the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Longstanding beneficiary Childhood Cancer will again look to raise funds through ticket sales to allow it to continue to deliver its comprehensive ‘Family Support Package’ to every diagnosed child and their family.
The Family Support Package is tailored to each family’s specific needs and may include elements such as daily hospital visits; respite accommodation; counselling; and education, bereavement and sibling support.
“At just $10 a ticket or $40 for a book of five, it’s a great way to put yourself in line for a life-changing prize while helping our worthy charities to change lives,” added Ms Meyer.
Channel 9 Telethon began the Home and Land Lottery in 1961 and this year the fundraiser is supporting 21 South Australian charities. Tickets are on sale at participating charities, online at www.telethon.com.au, through Beyond Bank Australia Branches, Guild Chemists, Wallis Cinemas and at the lottery home, which will be open for inspection each day from 1.00pm to 5.00pm from August 10 to November 30 2014.
