Now that we’re in December, we’re well and truly in the midst of the festive season, and at Chapel Hill Cellar Door, they’re giving Adelaide every excuse to celebrate in the ultimate McLaren Vale style. This December, the iconic winery is rolling out a trio of immersive, wine-driven experiences, making for the perfect excuse to get together with those you love most before the year ends.

Chapel Hill has always been a favourite for its award-winning wines and warm hospitality. But this year, they’re taking things to the next level. Giving you a chance to dive into the flavours of Grenache, blending your own GSM, or battling it out over a cheeky round of trivia, the cellar door is turning festive gatherings into something a little more memorable.

First up is the Grenache & Charcuterie Tasting. This is an intimate, guided exploration into one of McLaren Vale’s hero varietals. With the tasting, you’ll sample Chapel Hill’s standout Grenache releases while grazing through locally sourced charcuterie, making it an easygoing, delicious way to explore the best of the region. Bookings are open now through to Christmas Eve, with the experience priced at just $30 per person.

For groups wanting something hands-on, the GSM Blending Experience is where the fun really begins. On weekends, you’ll put on your winemaker hat and be guided by Chapel Hill’s expert team. You’ll learn the balance and art behind Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, before crafting your very own blend. It’s the ultimate team-building activity or weekend adventure for wine-loving mates. The experience is $45 and includes a cheese plate, with a minimum group booking of eight.

And if your group prefers a little competitive energy, the Wine Tasting Trivia Challenge runs through to December 24th. It’s a lively, interactive hosted challenge that mixes tasting skills with quick thinking. This one’s ideal for friend groups, office celebrations or anyone who claims to be good with wine, and at $15 per person and with a minimum group size of eight, it’s an easy way to bring some festive fun into the cellar door.

Beyond the experiences, Chapel Hill’s story goes back almost 185 years. The property’s original 1865 ironstone chapel, once a local spot for tennis matches, cricket, schooling and social gatherings, now stands as a beautifully preserved piece of history overlooking the vineyards. Grazing land was transformed into vineyards in the 1970s, with the first wines released in 1975, and under winemaker Pam Dunsford, Chapel Hill rose to national recognition, laying a foundation for the excellence that continues today.

Now led by chief winemaker and general manager Michael Fragos, alongside viticulturist Rachel Steer, Chapel Hill remains dedicated to crafting wines of purity and balance. Plus, with a deep commitment to sustainability, expressive regional character, and imaginative winemaking, they continue to set the benchmark for McLaren Vale’s most beloved styles and emerging Mediterranean varieties.

So whether you’re looking for the perfect way to round out 2025, kicking off the silly season, or simply gathering your favourite people for something special, Chapel Hill is offering one of the most scenic and fun ways to celebrate.
