Charles Melton… What A Difference A Decade Makes

Last night the Arkaba hosted one of their fantastic wine dinners, this time featuring renowned Charles Melton Wines. Read our review of the event here.

IMG_0009Imagine a 4 course meal, paired with some of SA’s best wines…. and you have yourself a perfect recipe for a guaranteed good time.

That’s exactly what happened last night at the Arkaba, when they held one of their fantastic wine dinners.

Last night’s affair was nothing other than scrumptious, as guests were treated to the internationally recognized Charles Melton Wines alongside great food from the Arkaba’s kitchen.

The evening was hosted by none other than Charlie Melton himself, who shared with guests the inside scoop on their boutique Barossa Valley Winery.

Chef Michael Stonehouse designed a menu fit for foodie and wine connoisseurs. Each of the courses was paired with 4 tastings of Charles Melton Wines.

To kick things off, we started with a Ravioli of comfit duck, stuffed into a silky handmade pasta shell, with a truffle scented sage berne noisette, topped off with a coddled egg.

IMG_0002Second to the table was a tender rare roasted beef fillet, on a mélange of roasted baby heirloom root vegetables, accompanied by a fluffy miniature horseradish Yorkshire pudding that melted in your mouth. This beef dish was paired with four of Charlie’s current & back vintages, including “Nine Popes” & “Grains of Paradise”.

For dessert we enjoyed a blue cheese Panna cotta, served with cinnamon poached quince and almond biscotti. The Panna cotta was paired with Charlie’s version of Vin Santo (wine of the saints) – Sotto di Ferro. This dessert wine was a thick, syrupy, aromatic and floral, which coated the pallet. The Panna cotta was delicious but needed more blue cheese to counteract the sweetness of the whole dish.

Overall it was a fantastic evening out. Definitely the sort of thing that makes leaving your house in this chilly weather worthwhile.

Make sure you book into one of the upcoming wine dinners at The Arkaka, as they’ll be running throughout winter.

The next event is sure to draw in the numbers, as Shaw & Smith Winery will be showcased….so don’t miss out and secure your tickets ASAP!
