A new cake house has opened on Payneham Road serving up delicious handmade cakes and coffees in flavour combinations we’ve been dying to try. From taro ube to bright green pandan, and even a cheddar cheese-covered custard cake, this is a classic cake shop with a twist!
Honey’s Cake House is brought to us by Michelle and Arnold Piana, who started baking from their home kitchen 10 years ago. After years of baking for family and friends, the pair decided to open Honey’s at the end of last year.
After moving to Australia, Michelle found herself missing the flavours from back home in the Philippines. So by incorporating things like ube, pandan, and coconut into her cakes, not only was she making delicious cakes, but also mixing a slice of home into her baking.

On the menu, you’ll find these influences take a prime position. Honey’s Cake House is whipping up cakes including an ube macapuno cake that’s purple with coconut strings, a bright green cake buco pandan cake with coconut string, and a yema cheesy cake made with Honey’s signature sponge cake, filled with rich custard, and covered in grated cheddar cheese.
Michelle says the yema cheesy cake is a favourite of her customers.
“It looks interesting, and I think that’s what makes people want to try it. It’s a sponge cake, filled with traditional Filipino dessert yema. Yema is made of different kinds of milk, condensed milk, evaporated milk, and powdered milk. It makes a gooey dessert, so that’s the filling of the cake. Then cheddar cheese on the top, which makes it sweet and salty, almost like salted caramel. It’s really delicious,” shared Michelle.

You’ll also find more traditional flavours ranging from a classic chocolate cake that’s filled with their signature chocolate mousse and topped with a dark chocolate glaze, to carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and a soft red velvet cake with a white chocolate cream cheese icing.
“I am a certified chocoholic. Our chocolate cake is so moist that it melts in your mouth. It’s my favourite.”
All of the cakes from Honey’s Cake House are available to buy whole or by the slice. They range in price from $45 to $50 for the whole cake, and $6.50 to $7 per slice. Plus with a drinks menu filled with classic coffees, iced and hot, this is the perfect spot to stop for a midday pick-me-up or afternoon sweet treat.
Stop by for a slice, a whole cake, or just a coffee, and let Payneham Road’s newest cake haven sweeten your day!
