Cheeky Thai-fusion pop-up ‘Pretty Thai For A White Guy’ to bring fire, flavour and zero rules to Kent Town

A bold new one-night dining experience is set to take over Henry’s this August, and it’s less dinner party, more high-energy street food rave.

Kent Town’s Henry’s Bar & Eatery is preparing for a fiery collaboration with The Culinary Creative, led by chef Jamie Carter, in a one-night-only pop-up cheekily named, Pretty Thai For A White Guy.

Landing on Saturday, August 29th, this will be a completely different kind of dining experience, built around bold Thai-inspired flavours, charcoal cooking, cocktails and a ‘no rules’ approach to food and format.

Chef Jamie says the night is designed to feel more like a party than a traditional dinner experience. “The event for me is a focusing on high energy, no rules, and built around bold Thai-inspired food cooked over fire,” he said. “Guests can expect great music, cocktails on arrival, and food that’s made to be eaten standing up, shared, and enjoyed without formality.”

As for the inspiration behind the tongue-in-cheek name, it runs deeper than the title suggests. “It’s my alter ego,” said Jamie. “I started my career at Golden Boy in the city when it first opened. I learnt so much from James Hillier, the owner, about creating the right theme, Thai food being that party vibe, the rebel cuisine in the industry, if you will.

“The Culinary Creative is refined, structured, and polished, this is the opposite. Pretty Thai For A White Guy is about flavour first, rules out the window. It’s inspired by Thai street food, late nights, charcoal cooking, and that chaotic, fun energy where food, drinks, and people all collide. It doesn’t try to be traditional. Just delicious.”

The night will feature a roaming menu designed for movement, sharing and intensity of flavour. Flavours and dishes like betel leaf bites, slow-cooked meats, crispy textures, big herbs and heat will be on the menu. “Jamie says there will intentionally be no courses or cutlery.

Tickets, priced at $80, include entry, a cocktail on arrival and all food for the evening, with drinks available for purchase at the bar throughout the night. A full cocktail program will be run in collaboration with Henry’s team.

While drinks are still being finalised, Jamie says the focus is on flow, atmosphere and keeping guests fuelled from start to finish. Everything will be cooked fresh on the night, much of it over charcoal, designed to keep service fast and continuous.

And the vibe? “When you get the right room, the right music, and food that people actually want to eat, it magically turns into something bigger than just dinner. That’s what I’m chasing. Bringing a large group of people together and getting the vibe going,” encourages Jamie.

So if you’re looking for something to spice up a Saturday evening this winter, Pretty Thai For A White Guy looks set to be one of Kent Town’s most talked-about winter tickets.
