A new addition to North Adelaide’s dining strip, Edi’s Kitchen, exudes experience and serves the bold, aromatic flavours of Sri Lanka with a modern Australian twist and a European sensibility. The restaurant recently opened on Melbourne Street and has been met with great reviews praising the dishes, warm service, and ambiance.

Opened in late September, the restaurant is the creation of Melan Edison, affectionately known as Chef Edi, whose culinary journey spans more than 25 years across the globe. Edi’s Kitchen, situated on the ground floor of Melbourne Street’s Comfort Hotel Adelaide Meridien, marks Chef Edi’s first venue in Australia.

“The restaurant feels like home to me. It’s personal, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to build myself,” Chef Edi said.

Drawing on his Sri Lankan heritage, a globally-minded career that kicked off in the early 2000s spanning Sri Lanka, South Korea, and now seven years cheffing in Australia, Edi’s Kitchen blends traditional recipes with contemporary techniques and European finesse.

“We’ve been making a few final adjustments before launching our new menu,” Chef Edi said. The menu is available as of writing. “The concept is Sri Lankan street food meets modern Australian dishes.”

“The food is full of flavour. It’s spicy, but not too hot,” Edi explained. “I use traditional Sri Lankan spices, with a slightly toned down heat level.”

The new dinner menu has just launched, available daily from 5pm. On it you’ll find Edi’s Lankan Smoke and Flame Chicken, slow cooked and finished over flame with Sri Lankan spices. Or try the Pan-Seared Barramundi with Saffron Sauce, or make it decadent with the 350 gram Beef Ribeye with chimichurri. Snacks include spiced Sri Lankan lamb rolls, Chargrilled Octopus, Sweet Sri Lankan Cavagi Tart with coconut, and more. For something sweet, try the Kithul Pani and Yoghurt Tiramisu or the Lemon and Lime Cheesecake with Coconut Ice Cream.

The venue features an airy interior that welcomes hotel guests and walk-ins alike, spilling onto a bar-style deck perfect for watching the world go by on Melbourne Street.

Edi’s Kitchen is already drawing attention for its warm hospitality and flavour-packed dishes, offering diners a chance to experience Sri Lankan cuisine reimagined through a contemporary Australian lens.
