Peel Street restaurant, Icarus, will host Glenelg sandwich bar, Dante’s Deli, for a special afternoon of unique snack cuisine on Saturday, 3rd February.
Fresh off being awarded two Chef Hat awards, the pop-up affair at Icarus will begin from 12pm where shoppers and workers can choose from a specially curated menu.
“Of the four sandwiches on offer, one is a creation designed specifically for the occasion. The number four is The Porchetta – a roasted porchetta base, paired with white cabbage and fennel slaw, and a caper and arugula salsa verde,” says Icarus Co-Owner Sam Stoio.
The others include popular Dante’s offerings: the Sopressa, the Veg and the Pastrami. Salume, tomato, fior di latte, peppers, mayo, and basil make up the Sopressa sandwich, while the Veg includes grilled eggplant and artichoke cream.
The Pastrami is not for the faint-hearted, featuring a generous serving of divine meat, Swiss cheese, bread and butter pickles, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing. Chunky, hearty and full of flavour, Dante’s sandwiches must be tasted to be believed, defying all expectations of the humble sando.
Dante’s Deli opened mind-last year in Glenelg, and has been a super popular pitstop ever since. The 25-square-metre space is a takeaway sandwich shop inspired by the grab-and-go panino bars of Italy.
The stunning deli’s fit-out features a street-facing banquette as well as a service window. It’s very reflective of modern Italian style with beautiful green Terazzo stone tops with a clean and open vibe, which wasn brought to life by builders Meraki and designers Alex Makridis and Simon Loucas of Studiohead.
It’s got a chic vibe, just like Icarus, which received two Chef Hat awards earlier this month (January) from the Australian Good Food Guide, placing it in Australia’s top one per cent of restaurants and South Australia’s top 10 eateries.
Nestled within its walls, the bar accommodates up to 80 people, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It has a sleek minimalist interior with cosy booths and high tables, all lit up with ambient lighting.
Icarus’ focus is on Eastern European and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine which is a perfect match with Dante’s Deli European inspired sando selection.
Beats from DJ Joe Marschall will pair with the menu, oozing funky weekend vibes.
