Chef Kim Restaurant is an inner east Korean gem you need to visit

A gem among the suburbs, Chef Kim Korean Restaurant has a slew of awards behind its authentic commitment to the art that is Korean cooking.

Hazelwood Park’s Chef Kim Korean Restaurant is, at first glance, a humbling looking building. A wide shop front, adorned with twinkling fairy lights draped across its entrance, and a large sign doesn’t look like your typical high-rolling restaurant. What you need to know is, the restaurant has a history of incredible recognition under its belt, thanks to head chef and owner, Hyun Ji Kim.

Authenticity is at the centre of what Chef Kim is all about, and the food that’s plated up upholds a standard direct from Seoul, Hyun Ji Kim’s place of birth, and where she learned everything she knows about the art that is Korean cooking.

Making her move to Adelaide in 2013 from South Korean capital, Seoul, Hyun Ji had a hope to open her very own restaurant that would deliver of real Korean cuisine, the kind you’d expect in the heart of Seoul.

Guests of the esteemed Korean restaurant that has been a finalist in the Catering & Restaurant Awards three years running can expect a treat for the palate with dishes including steamed barramundi and classics like jap chae, a sweet potato noodle dish.

Now that the winter weather is in full swing, the restaurant has also launched a winter stew menu to warm you inside out with offerings exclusive to this current season.

Alongside a traditional menu, Chef Kim Korean Restaurant is known for its innovation in creation with food, and is home to Adelaide’s bibimbap tower, a take on the traditional and worldly popular Korean dish.

While this unique take on tradition isn’t always available, it is a true testament to the raw skill and creativity of Hyun Ji and her love for Korean cooking.

The interior of Hazelwood Park’s Chef Kim is a humbling and bright feel, with large windows that beam the sun in across the dining space fit out with classic timber tables that pay tribute to the authenticity of the menu.
