Choo choo choose this amazing wine train adventure!

Yes you heard correctly. THE WINE TRAIN IS BACK! And it’s steaming towards some of South Australia’s best wineries, for an experience unlike any other.

While many of you have been busy exploring South Australia’s wine regions by car or minibus, deep down, you know that doing it by STEAM TRAIN would be way better.

South Australia’s iconic Wine Train has been loved by many over the years. Steamranger took on the massive project of replacing thousands of old sleepers with new, on the railway line that the Wine Train operate their tour on, from Mount Barker to Strathalbyn in 2021.

We’re excited to share with you the news you’ve all been waiting for… THE WINE TRAIN IS BACK AGAIN!

The Winter tour will be steaming towards some of South Australia’s best wineries from late May, for an experience unlike any other, and will be running through until August.

With each Wine Train date regularly selling out in the past, it’s clearly a hot ticket, so you’d better get in quick before you’re too late.

The South Coast Wine Train offers two options – leaving from Adelaide city (for an additional $44pp adults or $9pp kids) or departing from Mount Barker – and then the fun really begins.

For those leaving from Adelaide, your tour begins by a luxury coach departing the city and travelling into the picturesque Adelaide Hills to arrive in the ever-popular township of Mount Barker.

Join the South Coast Wine Train and travel from the heart of Mount Barker past new residential developments and escape into the fields of local produce, rolling hills and rich farming land, all whilst being surrounded by the majestic eucalyptus trees of the region.

Enjoy distant glimpses of the eastern plains and Murraylands extending from the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges toward the Coorong and South Coast, as the train slowly descends the Adelaide Hills escapement to arrive at the historic township of Strathalbyn.

Meet your luxury tour coach for a town tour of Strathalbyn before travelling the short distance to the vineyards of Langhorne Creek. Arrive at your first winery for the day and be guided through a tasting of local wines in an informal, relaxed approach with our wine host and the friendly cellar door staff.

After your first tasting for the day, arrive at a local restaurant surrounded by the region’s vineyards for a delicious two-course lunch.

Following lunch, continue your wine tasting encounters at the next cellar door for the day, where you start to experience more of the creativity and community pride that the locals have for their “hidden gem” of Australian wine regions.

From here you’ll continue through the vineyards of Langhorne Creek on a journey through to the Currency Creek Wine Region and closer to the coast.

During your final tasting and cellar door visit, you can learn more about the region’s vineyards and what makes their wines so highly regarded and sought after or just sit back and relax in the warmth of the local’s hospitality as your cellar door host guides you through your last tasting for the day.

Your South Coast Wine Traincrew will guide you from the last winery to the nearby station, where you will board the Wine Train for your return journey over the railway lines of the Fleurieu Peninsula back through Strathalbyn and into the Adelaide Hills.

Sit back in your beautifully restored 1940s carriage and enjoy listening to the rhythm of the rails as the South Coast Wine Train makes the climb back up the Mount Lofty Ranges to Mount Barker.

After a relaxing one-hour plus rail journey, your coach will be waiting at Mount Barker to shuttle you back to the city of Adelaide and to your original pickup point or hotel.

You will arrive in Adelaide at approximately 7:15pm and be taken back to your city hotel.
