Christmas Party Welcomes New Arrivals

Last year's Welcome Centre Christmas Party

Last year’s Welcome Centre Christmas Party

If Christmas is a time of giving, a time of love, and a time of celebration, Adelaide’s own Welcome Centre is calling on you to welcome the season with the gift of friendship to those still trying to find their place in our world.

In conjunction with the City of Charles Sturt and Activate, The Welcome Centre in Bowden is holding it’s annual Christmas Party this coming Saturday afternoon, 20 November, and you’re invited to come along with your family and friends to meet new arrivals and share a few hours eating and socialising with people from all walks of life.

The Welcome Centre is run by chartitable organisation Welcome to Australia which assists migrants, refugees and asylum seekers to understand Australian culture, learn or practice English, and make friends in a safe and supportive environment. One of the most difficult things for new arrivals is to make Australian friends, so the Welcome Centre acts as a bridge to foster and encourage Aussies to get to know their neighbours. We are, after all, one of the most multicultural countries in the world and most of what we buy, use and enjoy has been influenced by other cultures.

People from all nationalities and faiths are welcome, because it’s only through social cohesion and cultural understanding that we can help create a safer and more harmonious world for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.

The Christmas party runs from 1.30pm – 4m at the Welcome Centre, next door to the Activate community church, 100 Drayton Street, Bowden (cnr Hawker St). This non-religious celebration will include face painting, a bouncy castle and games for kids, and a BBQ lunch. Some food and drink provided but please bring a small plate to share and drinks (non-alcoholic).
