Citizenship Ceremony To Be Held At Coopers Stadium

Norwood Coopers StadiumThirty people will take their Australian Citizenship vows on the Oval at Coopers Stadium before tomorrow night’s Norwood Redlegs home match against the Adelaide Crows.

The Citizenship Ceremony coincides with the SANFL’s Multicultural Round and will run from 7.00pm – 7.15pm, with the match starting at 7.40pm.

The Citizenship candidates hail from 14 countries including Cambodia, Colombia, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Jordan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United Kingdom.

Each of the new citizens will go home with a free gift bag containing Norwood Redlegs merchandise.

Mayor Robert Bria, who approached the Norwood Football Club several months ago with the concept, said he was inspired by the Citizenship Ceremony held at Adelaide Oval last year before the Power versus Melbourne match during the AFL’s Multicultural Round.

“It’s clearly evident that the unique game of Australian football has been embraced and is being played by people from diverse cultural backgrounds, so it makes sense to use Multicultural Round to promote positive messages about the connection between cultural diversity and the sport,” Mayor Bria said.

“I am really pleased that the Norwood Football Club is supporting the Council in this initiative, which I think reflects our shared values of celebrating and respecting our multicultural community, many of whom support the Redlegs.”
