If you’ve been looking for a new spot to explore locally designed clothing pieces and artwork, you’re in luck! Local artist Eliza Piro has opened up a new boutique in Stepney, selling all this and more.
Eliza has been a prominent figure in the local art scene for years, working in acrylic paint and watercolour, adorning her canvases with intricate patterns and motifs. Eliza’s style combines dot and linework along with layering and masking techniques, resulting in artworks that are rich in colour and detail.
“I have been a full-time artist for almost twenty years. I was fortunate enough to have a very successful first exhibition, which really launched my career. I’ve absolutely loved it and have been able to survive, which is amazing,” Eliza shared.
“In the last ten years, I’ve sort of branched out into other areas, doing accessories, fashion, and slowly building that up to where I am today.”
Drawing inspiration from art styles from across the globe, you can see the resemblance of suzani textiles, Indian mandalas and eastern folk art, in her work. Her pieces are contemporary in style, with elements of tradition woven through.
“The patterns always begin as a painting, and then I am lucky enough to be able to create in-house with my husband and my son who helps me a lot. We create it into a rolling print which is then able to be used on fabric.
“It takes time to do it all, but when it works it’s great. Not all paintings become prints, I selectively choose what I think will work best for a fashion item. I go with trends, what colours are in season, what I think will work for summer or winter.”
Now at her new store, you’ll be able to browse her homewares, paintings, clothing, and more in person.
“I’m very excited to have a shop. I’ve only ever done markets and this is the first time I’ve ever had a shop. The feedback has been absolutely amazing!
“People have been coming in and being so excited. They love all the colours, they walk in and look up, they’re excited to be there. When I tell them that everything has been created by me, they can’t believe it.”
Eliza designs and creates all her own products.
“All the products are designed by me, I have everything from art prints and silk scarves to cushion covers, and fashion. I wholesale throughout Australia as well, and I think to be successful you need to have all those elements.
Eliza’s new store is located at 155 Magill Rd in Stepney and is surrounded by a range of other boutiques selling gorgeous homewares, clothing and more. Also on Magill Road, you’ll find lux homewares store Twopairs, clothing store Flourish, and plenty of other boutiques and eateries waiting to be explored.
