Classic Pub Grub Gets A Next Level Upgrade At West Oak Hotel

Now serving up so much more than a typical schnitzel (though you’ll find those too), the West Oak Hotel uses open wood fires to deliver a blend of top-grade classic pub favourites and quality restaurant-level dishes.

Pub food has come a long way in the last few years. While menus are still dominated by the humble schnitty, the quality and diversity is reaching level that makes pubs serious contenders for dinner with the fam or a knock off meal on Friday.

Located in the heart of the West End, the West Oak Hotel boasts a luscious green beer garden and sunlit balcony, making a perfect venue for sunny days and balmy summer nights.

Just last year, the West Oak Hotel revealed its new spring and summer menu. Head chef, Adam Robinson, puts a fresh, new spin on the traditional works of the city-west pub to bring you something unlike you’ve ever seen in a pub.

Now serving up so much more than a typical schnitzel (though you’ll find those too), the West Oak Hotel uses open wood fires to deliver a blend of top-grade classic pub favourites and quality restaurant-level dishes.

At the heart of the kitchen is the wood grill, a commercial cooking method pushed into popularity here in Adelaide by top tier restaurants, like longtime faves Bread & Bone and Press*. Cleverly, the chefs at West Oak Hotel are not always cooking from scratch with wood but instead, using the fire to flavour key ingredients.

“On the more delicate ingredients – the greens and the salmon – we are par-cooking those before getting them over the flame for flavour,” says Adam.

Not to mention, there are a tonne of plant-based items to reflect the shifting tastes of diners in Adelaide, while the meat they’re serving is of a quality and provenance worth listing.

Whether you’re craving a grand Black Angus Scotch Fillet and charred broccolini, or trying your hand at eating a little more plant-focused (cauliflower and lentils, kale, pickled red onion, tahini yoghurt, almond and grape, anyone?), the featured wood fire grill will be sure to please.

If you’re keen to get a taste of this next level pub menu, head on over to West Oak Hotel at 208 Hindley St. Food service hours include:
