Popular Port Elliot cafe levels up service on the sand with beachside ordering system

Flying Fish Café in Port Elliot has implemented a new mobile ordering system, making it easier for customers to enjoy their famous fish and chips while relaxing on South Australia’s stunning beaches.

Here at Glam Adelaide, we’re always looking for the best spots (new and old) to kick back at while enjoying a good drink and delicious meal. Whether it’s a hidden gem in the Hills, an inner city coffee spot, or a restaurant with ocean views, we’re always on the hunt for Adelaide’s best venues. One that’s been around for years, but is continuing to reinvent how they do things, is the Flying Fish Cafe in Port Elliot. Just in time for summer, they’ve brought in some pretty cool new tech streamlining the way customers place their orders.

Flying Fish Cafe is owned by Seb Packer and Ben Goldsmith.

“Ben lives in Middleton and you’ll find him swimming from one side of the bay to the other every morning. Both best mates, having holidays down there every year as they were growing up. Seb is the owner of TreeClimb, Packers and myDIY,” shared a spokesperson.

This summer they’ve introduced a new system, powered by HungryHungry allowing customers to order straight from their phones, where they can relax on the beach while they wait for their orders.

“It can get pretty busy on the beach, so we’re encouraging customers to order via their phone, then go back to their family and sit on the beach.”

By scanning the QR code, powered by HungryHungry, on the side of the building, you can easily place your order, and then they’ll send you a text when it’s ready to be picked up from the side window. You can even check the current wait times online before you order, so you can plan your beach break perfectly!

“It’s just polite, no one wants to wait in a carpark or at a takeaway window when they don’t have to. It’s the busiest time of the year for us, even with all the staff we can find, and all our fryers operating, we can still have long wait times for our famous beer-battered fish and chips.”

Now with the new process, not only can you perfectly plan when to pick up your takeaway, but more importantly spend more time enjoying the stunning spot the cafe is in.

As for the menu, the #1 selling item for takeaway is their famous beer-battered fish and chips. In the restaurant where you can dine in and enjoy the view, the whiting and our chicken burgers are crowd favourites.

“Don’t come down just for us, we’re a small part of this amazing part of the world. We’re lucky enough to be sitting on one of South Australia’s best beaches, and you can see from all the photos, that it’s no secret! Come down, make the day of it. There are plenty of local shops and things to do!

If you’re thinking of heading in it’s recommended that customers book if they want to dine in the restaurant.

“We’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days in January, and can book up pretty quick!”
