The cream of South Australia and the Northern Territory’s bartending crop battled it out on Tuesday night at Casablabla for the title of SA/NT winner of the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge.

Roman Tazdhynov from Bibliotheca battled a particularly bad bout of the flu to compete and take out a spectacular win. Roman will now go on to represent South Australia in the national final in Sydney at the end of August where he will continue to fight for a trip to Trinidad to compete in the global finals.

Judges commented that Roman’s cocktails, ‘Peach Perfect’ and ‘Drink Brullee’, stood out in both taste and appearance and were clear winners.

Second place went to Nick Corletto from Hains & Co, who impressed the judges with his cocktails ‘Extra Maritime Affair’ and ‘Silver Lining’.

Last year’s second place winner, Chad Hanson from Sean’s Kitchen, took third place after disaster struck and his cocktail drained away with only one judge having tasted the concoction. ‘Pineapples and Powerdrills’ was served in a bored out pineapple, except the drill took a little too well to the pineapple and the ‘glass’ couldn’t hold the drink.
