With more icy temperatures and wild weather on the way, a Code Blue Tier 2 response has been extended for the Lower Eyre Peninsula, Mount Lofty Ranges and Murraylands.
To be activated today, Tuesday, 24 June, the Tier 2 response will now stay in place until 11am on Thursday 26 June. This ensures that people sleeping rough in these regions continue to have access to overnight shelter, warm meals and extra support during some of the coldest nights this winter.
The Code Blue is part of the Rough Sleeper Extreme Weather Response, which helps protect people at risk of harm when dangerous conditions hit.
A Tier 1 response sees services extend their usual hours, boost outreach and provide extra supplies like hot drinks, warm clothing and bedding.
Tier 2 adds overnight accommodation for people doing it tough, including motel stays and check-ins from support workers.
The extended activation is based on ongoing cold, windy and wet conditions that pose a real threat to people without safe shelter.
If you or someone you know is sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness, support is available anytime through Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308.
As this cold snap continues, the extended Code Blue response is all about making sure no one is left to face it alone.
