Cold snap pushes SA code blue emergency response into Sunday

South Australia’s cold weather has triggered another extension of the Code Blue emergency response, with Tier 1 and Tier 2 support in place across numerous regions through the weekend.

The Lower South East has had its Tier 2 response extended through to 11am Monday 16 June, offering ongoing shelter and cold weather assistance for people experiencing homelessness. Tier 2 support also remains active in the Riverland and Upper South East, with all three regions covered across Friday 13, Saturday 14, and now Sunday 15 June.

Under a Tier 2 response, services expand to include warm meals, hot drinks, sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing, and access to heated spaces. Overnight shelter and extended operating hours are also available.

Several other areas across the state remain under Tier 1 Code Blue conditions, with upgraded responses in some locations.

A Tier 2 activation will also be in effect on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June in Clare Valley and Mount Lofty Ranges. These areas were previously Tier 1 on Friday 13 June.

Tier 1 support is currently active across the following regions:

  • North East Pastoral (13 & 14 June)
  • West Coast (13 & 14 June)
  • Eastern Eyre (13 June only)
  • Lower Eyre (13 & 14 June)
  • Mid North (13 & 14 June)
  • Clare Valley (13 June only before Tier 2 begins)
  • Yorke Peninsula (13 & 14 June)
  • Fleurieu Peninsula (13 & 14 June)
  • Kangaroo Island (13 & 14 June)
  • Adelaide Metropolitan (13 & 14 June)
  • Mount Lofty Ranges (13 June only before Tier 2 begins)
  • Murraylands (13 June only)

All Tier 1 activations will conclude at 5pm Saturday 14 June, except in Eastern Eyre and Murraylands, where they will end earlier at 5pm Friday 13 June.

Code Blue activations are coordinated to reduce harm caused by freezing temperatures, particularly for people sleeping rough. The response is delivered through Homeless Connect SA, which operates 24/7 and can be reached on 1800 003 308.

Key Timings:

  • Tier 2 (Riverland, Upper South East, Lower South East): Active through to 11am Monday 16 June
