Coles supermarkets have launched their annual Hot Cross Buns campaign, and while many of us are still figuring out how to get through our Christmas leftovers, there are plenty of people who look forward to this early start to the Easter staple. Available for purchase from today (metropolitan Coles are closed on Boxing Day FYI but regional stores are open), the supermarket chain is offering these seasonal treats not just as a sweet delight but with a charitable twist: a portion of the sales will support families facing childhood cancer.
For each six-pack or nine-pack of Coles branded hot cross buns sold, 20 cents will be donated to Redkite, a charity providing essential services to children with cancer and their families. This initiative, which runs until January 1st 2025, includes various flavours of hot cross buns priced at $4.50 per pack or two packs for $7.
Brad Gorman, Coles General Manager Commercial, Bakery, Dairy & Frozen, stresses the importance of this initiative. “We’re incredibly proud of our 11-year partnership with Redkite, through which we’ve supported more than 8,500 families dealing with some of life’s toughest challenges,” he said
“We’re turning a delicious treat into a powerful way to make a difference, helping to fund vital services for children and their families.”
Among the wide variety of flavours, shoppers can choose from traditional fruit, apple and cinnamon, chocolate chip, and fruit-free options. The special edition flavours including Vegemite and Cheese, and Arnott’s Iced Vovo Inspired hot cross buns, are also available for $5.50 per pack.
Over the past decade, the generosity of Coles customers and team members has raised more than $54 million for Redkite. This substantial support has facilitated numerous services, including counselling, financial assistance, and essential guidance for families navigating the arduous journey of childhood cancer.
