Coles Launches Mobile Wallet – An Australian Retail First in Contactless Payment Technology

coles-launches-mobile-walletColes is delivering an Australian retail first in payment technology, with the national launch of the new Coles Mobile Wallet. Supported by MasterCard, the Coles Mobile Wallet integrates the Coles Pay Tag™ with an all new Coles App delivering account management, enhanced security and rewarding value in the palm of the hand.

The Coles Mobile Wallet connects to the Coles Pay Tag™ which was successfully trialled in February 2013, and it enables customers to securely manage and monitor their Coles Rewards MasterCard, Coles No Annual Fee MasterCard and flybuys points through the convenience of a smartphone (available in iPhone and Android).

Richard Wormald, Coles General Manager of Financial Services said, “We understand that Coles customers are doing even more from their mobile devices – whether that be surfing for recipes or managing their finances. With this in mind, it is exciting to launch the Coles Mobile Wallet which puts customers in control of their spending and introduces Australians to an entirely new way to pay.”

“Our trials revealed that 77% of Coles MasterCard customers found the Coles Pay Tag™ more convenient than using their traditional credit cards. Now partnered with the new App, the Coles Mobile Wallet will provide functionality, a seamless user experience and instant rewards – unlike any other credit card in the market,” continued Richard Wormald.

The Coles Mobile Wallet features:
·         Coles Mobile Wallet is free, with no additional fees or charges
·         Manage your account 24 hours a day with access to your account balance, available credit and transaction history
·         View your flybuys account points balance
·         Access a great range of exclusive flybuys offers
·         Includes  MasterCard’s Zero Liability and the Falcon ® fraud technology
·         Ability to turn your Coles Pay Tag™ contactless payment on or off

Andrew Cartwright, SVP & Country Manager, MasterCard Australia said “With one in two transactions below $100 now made with contactless technology, Australia continues to lead the way in payments globally.  The Coles Mobile Wallet follows the success of MasterCard’s PayPass™ technology, and is testament to the growing appetite of Australians for fast, simple and secure payment methods.

“More than 320,000 contactless terminals are now available nationally, giving mobile wallet customers the opportunity to use the convenient payment method at a wide range of retailers.”

Effectively a credit card and flybuys card in one, Coles Pay Tag™ features an adhesive side which allows customers to stick the small card to the back of their mobile phone. Using existing PayPass™ terminals in store, including all Coles stores across Australia, customers can simply ‘Hold & Pay’.

The Coles Pay Tag™ also offers the same protection against fraud and security as the Coles MasterCard credit card, thanks to MasterCard’s Zero Liability and the Falcon® fraud technology.  The in-built chip provides protection against personal details being copied, with the Coles Mobile Wallet App also giving an additional layer of security with the option to turn the Coles Pay Tag™ on and off.

Since re-launching in 2012, Coles credit cards have received numerous awards, including Money Magazine Winner 2014 for both Best Rewards Credit Card for Non-Bank and Best Transaction Credit Card for Non-Bank, as well as CANSTAR Five Star Rating for Outstanding Value Rewards, Outstanding Value Credit Card and Innovation Excellence.
