Colley Reserve to transform into outdoor cinema for Inaugural Glenelg Film Festival

The inaugural Glenelg Film Festival is landing at the Bay next Saturday, 23 March, transforming Colley Reserve into a film lovers’ hub and celebrating the South Australian film industry.

The Glenelg Film Festival gears up to unveil its inaugural Festival Event at Glenelg’s Colley Reserve on March 23rd.

Promising an electrifying celebration of film and culture, the Festival Event is set to showcase world premieres of two films, an awards ceremony honouring the best talents in the industry, and an immersive film hub experience.

“There will be ticketed seating at Colley Reserve for nominees and guests, but the event is free and open to the public,” Festival Co-Director Nick Buckland says. He further urged the community to join in the festivities, saying, “We are urging the people of Holdfast Bay and beyond to come and connect with the film industry in this community celebration of South Australian creatives.”

Since its inception in May 2023, the Glenelg Film Festival has been on a mission to curate the finest cinematic gems for its major Festival Event.

Over the past months, audiences have been treated to a diverse array of over eighty short films from local, national, and international filmmakers. From this extensive selection, fourteen standout films have been shortlisted by audiences and judges, vying for recognition in six prestigious categories: Best Actor, Best Cinematographer, Best Sound, Best Art Department, Best Director, and Best Film.

Spanning genres such as Sci-Fi, Comedy, Thriller, Animation, Drama, and Romance, these films promise to captivate audiences with their creativity and innovation.

On the day of the festival, Colley Reserve will undergo a magical transformation into a hub for film enthusiasts, industry professionals, and the general public.

Attendees can indulge in treats from local food and beverage stalls, including favourites like Beach Burrito and Five Eleven Distillery. The entertainment lineup will feature captivating performances by Precizion Dance and Fusion Beats Dance.

As dusk descends, the focus will shift to an enchanting outdoor cinema space where the Glenelg Film Festival Awards Ceremony will unfold.

Festival Co-Director Sarika Young highlighted the rich cultural tapestry that will be on display.

“We will open with a fabulous Welcome to Country and Aboriginal cultural dance. We will also showcase other cultural performances such as Bollywood Dance celebrating Bollywood film, and Latin performances. All of this will display Australia’s mix of cultural diversity, especially in the film industry,” Young says.

With its stellar lineup of films, immersive experiences, and vibrant cultural showcase, the inaugural Glenelg Film Festival is calling all film lovers.
