Comedian Victor David returns to Adelaide Fringe with new show, The Handmodel’s Tale

After the success of his previous show Hipster Hotline, Victor is returning to Adelaide with a new comedy show discussing the oddities in our lives.

Comedian Victor David is returning to this year’s Fringe Festival, bringing with him a brand new show, The Handmodel’s Tale, that’s set to leave you in stitches this February 21-26.

After the success of his previous show Hipster Hotline, Victor is returning to Adelaide to bring Fringe-goers a comedy show discussing the oddities in our lives.

Hanging up the phone to the hotline, this time Victor isn’t gifting wannabe Hipsters with hilariously harsh truths and questioning urban modern-day culture. Instead, The Handmodel’s Tale is a comedic reflection on the beauty of life.

Taking over the Bakehouse Theatre studio for one week only, the Sydney-based comedian shares a personal story on family, life choices and breaking free from tradition in his latest show. Born to unmarried hippie parents, there’s a lot to learn about life and what you can make out of it.

“At first I wanted to live life freely like my parents did; then at one point I found myself to be a professional handmodel, and I asked myself how I got to land such an odd job – I felt it is worth to write a comedy show about the story,” says Victor.

Travel from Victor’s carefree childhood in Amsterdam to the present day as the show follows an uplifting, and at times musical, narrative of the culture, belief, life and the choices we make. Utilising his smooth voice, ukulele and piano, the Sydney-based comedian breaks up the stand-up with entertaining melodies.

“Back in the Netherlands comedians always have a musical element to their show, regardless of how musically gifted they are,” he says.

“Performing in Australia, I wanted to bring that tradition with me and took singing and music writing classes. It just gives an extra touch to the show.”

Bursting on to the stand-up scene six years ago, Victor has gone from strength to strength since – hosting his second fringe show this season. Last year’s Hipster Hotline received rave reviews, with his talents and passion for comedy translating in his sets.

“A comedian with great potential. He read the crowd well and worked with it. Would be awesome with a bigger crowd,” wrote Fringe Member reacts.

Now, Victor gets to take a bigger stage at the Bakehouse Theatre to grace Adelaidians with entertaining musings on this thing we call life.
