This week the regular Wednesday Comedy night at the Marion Hotel featured Justin Hamilton. With a great night of comedy provided by local comedians, Justin was the perfect headline act. Performing hosting duties for the night, Tommy Dassalo warmed the audience up nicely and kept the laughter flowing between sets. We were treated to a variety of local stand-up, beginning with Marc Ryan and Bryn Adams. The second set comprised of Kel Belnaves and Jason Pestell and each had their individual style all of which was well received by the eager audience.
It was plain why Hamilton has such a strong reputation as a crowd pleaser. He was calm confident and in control, completely able to turn any quirk of the audience to his advantage. His stories were engaging and witty, but he never let the crowd forget that he can swap profanities with the best of them. He managed this, and some very funny toilet humour, without appearing crass or crude.
Most comedians find it hard to hold the attention of a crowd for more than ten minutes. Justin Hamilton’s set lasted over an hour and he left us wanting more. Great to see him back in Adelaide. He should visit more often!
