This January, a new cafe is set to swing open its doors on Hutt Street, bringing a fresh twist to a familiar South Australian favourite. You may already know the St Georges Bakehouse brand, with 27 locations around the state, and now a new addition is joining the lineup, doing things in its own unique style.
Leading the project is Lena Woods, who says her new venture is going to be different from the rest, with a new menu, new vibe, catering offerings and more. “We have gone with a little bit more colourful. It’s going to be a comfy, chill vibe with beautiful greens and blue tones, but still keeping our famous St Georges black-and-white,” she said. “We’ve added a few more items to our menu, and we also plan on having the beautiful aesthetic outside where you can come have breakfast or lunch and chill under the beautiful trees.”
Located at Level 1/199 Hutt Street, the spot was previously Cibo Espresso, which closed its doors last year. Lena says the location was attractive due to its heritage look and neighbouring shops. With a florist next door and a great set-up for indoor outdoor dining, the spot was a no-brainer for the new venture.
Lena says the team has kept the heritage vibe that made it so attractive, indoors and out, but has added a bit more colour and art on the walls. They’ve even added a few funny touches to the bathroom and through the art, which will definitely be something to look out for when you head to the store.

As for the food and drink, expect all your St Georges favourites, but again with a slight twist. “We’ve got a new menu, and we’re also going to be a licensed venue offering wines, beers and cocktails. We’re also going to be opening later as we’re offering catering for surrounding businesses, corporate events and personal gatherings.
“We are going to offer a wide range of items on our à la carte menu, from our famous bakery goods, amazing coffee, but also some new items on our menu and our new canning machine that allows drinks to be customised in a can.”
Lena says to look out for the breakfast menu and a new item called Queen’s Breakfast. This will feature sourdough, poached eggs and smoked salmon, topped with feta and cherry tomatoes. Plus, as a licensed venue, Lena says she’s looking forward to customers being able to sit outside in the evenings and enjoy a wine and maybe even a cheeseboard.
St Georges Hutt Street is set to open later this month, around January 27th, and will be the perfect spot for a morning coffee, quick lunch, or to kick back with a glass of wine in the afternoon! Keep an eye out on their website and socials for more details!
