YOTS Hair Salon is not only an Adelaide institution but a true family enterprise that has been shaping the city’s hair and beauty scene for nearly four decades. Now, they’re welcoming a beautiful new salon on Magill Road.
Dimitrios Varsos and his wife, Rebecca, opened their first YOTS salon in Hyde Park 38 years ago, with Dimitrios at the helm as head hairdresser. Trained at ClipJoint and an amateur painter in his spare time, he quickly became a favourite among clients drawn to both his technical skill and creative eye.
From those early beginnings, the business continued to flourish. Alongside Hyde Park, YOTS salons soon expanded across Adelaide, cementing their place as one of the state’s most recognisable salon groups.
The name “YOTS” itself carries a touch of serendipity. Rebecca explains it was inspired by a painting Dimitrios came across by American artist Philip Evergood, which featured the word “YOTS” on the side of a building.
“There’s no real mystery behind the name,” Rebecca laughs. “It was just something he saw and thought would stand out.”

Today, the next generation is firmly at the helm. Dimitrios and Rebecca’s daughter, Isabella, now runs all three salons, following her father’s recent decision to retire his scissors.
“We’re so proud of Isabella and what she has achieved,” Rebecca says. “She recently won a major international award from Kevin Murphy for colour expertise and travelled to Copenhagen as first prize.”
With a team of 50 highly trained staff across the three locations, YOTS continues to attract a loyal and growing client base. Rebecca says a key part of their success is their commitment to training and development.
“Clients keep returning because they know our team are among the most highly trained in the industry,” she says. “We also proudly employ at least 18 apprentices across our salons — more than any other salon group in Adelaide. We believe if you invest in training, you invest in client satisfaction.”
That commitment to growth is continuing with the Varsos family preparing to open a brand-new flagship salon at Norwood Green in mid-July.
“We’ve loved our time on The Parade in Norwood, but we’ve simply outgrown the space,” Rebecca explains. “The new salon will feature a stunning fit-out with stone, polished concrete and copper finishes, and we’re increasing our chairs from 10 to 17.”
The salon has been designed with a minimalist Mediterranean aesthetic, placing a strong emphasis on organic simplicity and understated luxury.
At its heart is a communal table that acts as a central focal point, encouraging interaction and creating a shared, social experience for clients as they move through the space. Brass chain mesh curtains softly frame the basin area, offering a sense of privacy while still maintaining an open, airy flow throughout the salon. The overall design strikes a careful balance between sophistication and warmth, blending natural textures, sculptural forms and a refined material palette to create more than just a hairdressing destination; it becomes a calming sanctuary dedicated to self-care, connection and transformation.
The new YOTS salon will be located at 100 Magill Road, Norwood Green and is set to open this July!
