COMING SOON: Award-winning live music venue returns to Aldinga, this time with a twist

Award-winning live music space is making a grand return – this time with a focus on local talent and and community produce.

Aldinga’s beloved live music space is making a grand return, now as Soul House Social Club. Operating from the old Pepper Tree venue with a focus on fresh locally sourced produce and community, this hot new spot invites parents, kids, and anyone to “just hang out.”

The man behind the relaunch is an Irish expat Damien Knowles who moved to the area 12 years ago and credits the local community with changing his life. Now, he’s eager to give back.

“Pepper Tree is about more than just music – it’s a space where people can come together, hang out, and feel part of something bigger,” he says.

The location boasts over an acre of land, which the team plans to use for a little bit of everything.

“Outdoor seating areas, fire pits… we’ll be growing our own vegetables and have an area for planting and gardening.”

“We’re going to start doing the Sweathouse Social Club, which is a mobile sauna with ice baths and some events for families, just women, just men, and some wellness ones too. Our aim is to really hone in on social club and community.”

The selection of food and drinks veers away from classic pub meals and focuses on freshness and sustainability. In a whole community effort, produce will be sourced from Willunga and the greater Fleurieu Peninsula.

“We do a lot of our shopping at Willunga Farmer’s Market so a lot of our supplies will be from there. We’ll also be supporting the fishermen down at Cape Jervis and Myponga Beach. And for beers, we have Fork Tree Brewery and Devil Kickback in the works.”

For those in favour of the hearty local favourites, pizza nights, kids eat free and other fun bits and pieces are still on the agenda.

True to its roots, the location is also set to become a hub for local music, but this time not just heavy metal. From reggae to DJ sets, Damien says it’s open to any type of art or music.

“We’re changing the vibe from just heavy, heavy bands. We’ll still do that but in a more controlled setting where kids are welcome.”

“We’re opening up a reggae band for easy listening, then we’ll have some blues and roots and a couple of rock bands. We’re supportive of everything.”

The community focus is at the heart of the place. Soul House Social Club welcomes music newcomers and anyone who needs a space for their event – the bookings list is already stacking up.

“I’ve got a local artist Tom Harrington playing on the 30th of May and we’re trying to help him on his journey so he’s getting all proceeds from the evening,” adds Damien.

“We’ve had so many people saying, “can we rent the space and how much is it?” If you bring people, it’s yours.”

A home away from home and a family venue with a twist, Pepper Tree is set to be the perfect location to unwind, connect and enjoy live music on the stunning South Coast.

“We want you to feel like you are still at home. Show up, hang out and support local businesses with great music and great food. Everyone’s welcome.”

The official opening date is set for May 3. Keep up to date on their socials below for fun events.
