COMING SOON: Barossa Tea Room and Wine Bar showcases tapas dining

Barossa Tea Room and Wine Bar is promising to bring tapas-style food and flavourful tea combinations all in a cosy relaxing atmosphere.

Ladies and gentlemen, there’s a new tea room and wine bar coming to town. Or should we say, the Barossa.

Barossa Tea Room and Wine Bar is promising to bring tapas-style food and flavourful tea combinations all in a cosy relaxing atmosphere.

Owner Liz Jennings has dreamed about one day having a space where people come together, share food and enjoy each other’s company. But Liz made a huge pivot from being a hairdresser for 22 years to now becoming a chef.

“I decided one day that I wanted to be a pastry chef and I had the opportunity to work at Tasting Australia last year. That opportunity was such a great experience for me to work with some of the best chefs in Australia,” Liz said.

With that experience under her belt, Liz felt that it was time to put her new found skills to good use and open a venue that would embody her favourite things about cafe/dining experiences.

“I really love the idea of sharing food with friends and family and making sure that everyone is able to enjoy everything on their plates. That’s why I came up with this tapas tea room idea,” Liz said.

The purposeful career pivot is also sporting a purposeful location. Liz, a Barossa native, moved from Nuriootpa to Truro and instantly fell in love.

“I always loved the Craneford Wines old fire station and I loved the fact that the town really tells a story whether you chat to locals or look at the buildings, it all feels warm. Which is why we chose this place,” Liz continued.

The warmth of the town is being transferred to the new tea room and wine bar by not only the products, but also the aesthetic and decor.

“We went with the whole rustic look when it came to the furniture and accents. I love the look of places that feel like they have character and a personality,” Liz said.

The tea room will be fully equipped with an incredible variety of tea flavours to choose from.

“We will be offering high teas and we are using Tea Tonic Teas which are Australian-made, organic and we will have 28 flavours to choose from. So there will be something for everyone,” Liz said.

Liz has also worked really hard on getting the menu just right so that this won’t be a typical tea room or wine bar.

“I’m trying out a few signature dish pairings so you can have a glass of wine that perfectly accompanies the food that you’re eating. For example, I have a Yabby dish that I’m working on along with a lovely crispy pork belly that baked with wine for 3 hours. We will still have charcuterie boards to satisfy everyone’s tastes,” Liz continued.

The rotating specials list is something that Liz is trying to focus on so that even if you become a regular, there is always something new to try.

The wine bar aspect of the venue intends to perfectly meld into high teas with glasses of bubbles featured on the menu.

Liz intends to hold a soft opening at the end of the month with an official opening in October.

Opening hours will be Wednesday – Sunday 9am till late.
