A Melbourne Street favourite is heading into wine country this February, bringing with it almost a decade of experience serving North Adelaide locals.
The Spot on Melbourne was born in 2017 by Magdalene Cu and her husband, Huy Nguyen. “The Spot was born from a love of Vietnamese food that’s simple, comforting and deeply familiar, the kind of food you grow up eating and always come back to,” shared Magdalene. “The Spot in Tanunda is the next chapter of a journey that began in 2017 with The Spot on Melbourne Street in North Adelaide. Since opening, the Melbourne Street venue has become a well-loved local favourite, known for its comforting Vietnamese food and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.”
The duo are both long-time hospitality operators in South Australia, and after years of running The Spot on Melbourne, expanding into the Barossa felt like a natural progression and an opportunity to bring what they do best to a new community.
The new Tanunda venue will join a lively hub of businesses on the main street, but will be built on the ethos Magdalene and Huy have developed over the years in North Adelaide. “At its heart, The Spot exists to be a place people can rely on, somewhere welcoming, relaxed and unpretentious. We wanted to create a space where locals and visitors alike can enjoy honest food, good drinks and genuine hospitality, whether it’s a quick lunch, a family dinner or a casual catch-up.”
In Tanunda, The Spot will continue with its relaxed, casual vibe, and the menu focuses on traditional Vietnamese dishes like pho, as well as rice and noodle favourites. There will also be Vietnamese iced coffee, lemon iced tea and a curated drinks list that includes alcoholic options.
Open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch, with dinner service from Thursday to Saturday, it’s an approachable, easy and affordable option. And just like the name suggests, the goal is for it to be the spot for good food, good drinks and a welcoming atmosphere, every time you walk through the door.
The Spot in Tanunda will open on February 5th, with a grand opening celebration. To celebrate, they’ll be giving away a free Vietnamese iced coffee with every main dish.
