Workers and students in the city can now add authentic Indian curries and a healthy range of unique grab-and-go salad bowls to their lunch time options menu with a new Indian fusion takeaway venue, Bollywood. It’s due to open early next month, on the corner of King William and Pirie street.

Business owner and Chef, Bhushan Bavanam, noticed a lack of spice within the CBD, and came up with a menu to cater for the void. He’s also adding some extra options for those looking for a healthy and quick alternative in their lunch break.

In addition to traditional salads, Bhushan plans to offer Russian, Mexican and Greek salad bowls, as well as a low-fat Chicken Tikka, marinated with yoghurt, chilli and garam masala.

“There are options in the city for Vietnamese, Asian and Italian, but nothing close-by where people can get curry. I think the closest option is in Hindley Street, which makes it hard for some people to access” he said.

Sourcing Halal certified meats, Bollywood’s signature dish will be an authentic slow-cooked, mild Biriyani, made with close to 60 ingredients and prepared with boneless chicken, instead of the usual maryland cut, to add to the convenience for customers eating on the run.

A low-cost option of yoghurt and rice, and dahl, with rice and vegetables, from as little as $4.99 will also be available – catering for the needs of the city’s international students.

Bhushan previously ran a Japanese/Indian Fusion takeaway store in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley and plans to hone his skills on making Bollywood a quick, affordable and healthy option for lunch, expecting to be able to serve customers in under a minute.

It won’t be long until you can get your hands on some curry in a hurry, with the lunch-time venue expected to be open early May, just in time to warm your belly as the cooler weather hits.
