A stand-out community favourite in Canberra, Party Time Nepal is expanding, bringing its next venture to Adelaide. Opening in just a few weeks, the new venue promises a relaxed lounge-style atmosphere paired with bold, authentic Nepalese flavours on King William Road.
The new restaurant, Kutumba Lounge, is transforming an existing space into a warm, Nepalese-inspired setting where food, culture and atmosphere come together. With a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, the venue will cater for close to 100 guests, offering a comfortable and social dining experience that encourages long, shared meals.

Behind the venture is husband-and-wife duo Prashant and Barsha Baral Prassain. Since 2021, the pair have built a strong following through their Canberra-based catering business, Party Time Nepal. What began as a small operation quickly gained momentum, largely driven by word of mouth and strong community support.
“We got so much love from the community,” Prashant said. “We didn’t even need to advertise much. People kept booking us because of the food.”
That reputation only grew with the launch of their food truck in 2024, which continues to operate as a franchise. The food truck helped cement their place in the local food scene, with Prashant estimating that a large portion of Canberra’s Nepalese community has now tried their dishes.

The move to Adelaide marks the next step in their growth, bringing their well-tested concept to a new audience. While the menu will largely reflect their food truck favourites, Kutumba Lounge will expand the offering with additional traditional dishes, resulting in a menu of around 20 to 25 items.
Dishes like momo (Nepalese dumplings), will take centre stage, including their popular chilli momo, alongside chow mein, fried rice and a range of rich, flavour-packed curries. The menu will also feature more traditional options such as dal bhat sets and house-made desserts like kheer.
A key point of difference, Prashant said, is the authenticity and consistency of the food, with recipes developed and led by Barsha.
“My wife is the one behind all the recipes,” he said. “She has been cooking the same food for years, and that consistency is our signature.”
Fresh ingredients also play a major role, particularly in their house-made chutneys, which are prepared using fresh tomatoes and spices rather than pre-made or canned alternatives.

While the food is the main focus, the venue itself is designed to enhance the experience. Around half the space will feature lounge-style seating, creating a relaxed and comfortable setting for diners. Plans are also underway for live acoustic music on Friday and Saturday nights, adding to the atmosphere without overpowering the dining experience.
Kutumba Lounge is expected to open in late March or early April, pending final licensing and finishing touches, including Nepalese-inspired décor and artwork.
For Prashant, the goal is simple: to bring the same quality and authenticity that made Party Time Nepal a success in Canberra to a new community.
“We are already a tested business,” he said. “Now we just want to serve the best quality, authentic Nepalese food to the people of Adelaide.”
