Nestled in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, Cobb’s Hill Estate is set to elevate its culinary experience with the introduction of a brand-new Terrace Restaurant.

General Manager, Jed, shares the vision for this exciting venture, where the focus will be on farm-to-plate dining, showcasing their own produce and wines.

With a history dating back to 1854 and a commitment to providing the best in wine, service, and setting, the addition of this restaurant promises to be a new and exciting experience for visitors and locals alike.

The decision to build the new Terrace Restaurant stemmed from the need for more covered space for year-round dining.

“We have a large garden venue, but not much undercover space. As the idea evolved, we decided to introduce new menu items, and that’s when the concept of an enclosed area with a restaurant and bar took shape,” Jed says.

The focus of the restaurant  will revolve around an emphasis on using the produce grown on Cobb’s Hill’s working farm.

“We grow Black Angus cattle, Southdown sheep and a variety of vegetables in our newly established veggie patches,” Jed proudly shares. “Our long-term goal is to produce as much food on the property as we can.”

The kitchen will be a hub of culinary creativity, featuring a 3-meter long grill and wood-fired oven. Under the guidance of Head Chef DeBuys Nortier and the consulting expertise of Adam Liston from Shobosho, a Modern Australian menu is in the works.

“We’re planning on offering a tasting menu with a strong focus on flame-cooked dishes and showcasing our own produce,” Jed reveals.

As for the design of the restaurant, Cobb’s Hill Estate aims to seamlessly blend the dining experience with the natural beauty of the garden. “We want it to feel like it’s a part of the garden,” says Jed.

The restaurant will boast stone and timber elements, along with bi-fold windows that can open up to embrace the stunning views on sunny days. A large fireplace will provide warmth and coziness during the winter months.

The history of Cobb’s Hill Estate is rich and fascinating, dating back to 1854 when the farm on the Swamp Run became Cobb’s Hill Estate. It played a significant role in Australia’s transportation history, with pastures for horses employed in pulling the iconic Cobb & Co. stagecoaches through the Adelaide Hills from 1867.

Today, Cobb’s Hill Estate is a sprawling property covering over 250 acres, featuring more than 70 acres of vineyards, as well as Black Angus cattle and Baby Doll Southdown sheep. Over the last 25 years, the vineyards have been carefully cultivated to focus on premium, cool-climate grape varieties, consistently producing high-quality wines.

Jed expresses his excitement about the project, which has been in the works for three years. “We’re delighted to be able to offer our visitors an enhanced dining experience that celebrates our history, our produce, and the stunning natural surroundings of the Adelaide Hills.”

With Cobb’s Hill’s new Terrace Restaurant poised to boast a farm-to-plate ethos, fire-cooked delights, and warm ambiance, this exciting addition promises to be a delightful haven for food and wine lovers alike.
