Offering barista made coffee in the morning, dine-in or take-away options for lunch, then transforming into a go-to-spot for after work lounging, knock-offs, and shared bites, is the new Exchange Lane Bar. The new laneway bar is set to be an establishment that caters to all people going in and out of the city that need a stopover at anytime of the day.

The bar will be part of the new Marriott Hotel, which is nearing completion. It will join the Penny Blue restaurant at the Marriott where new executive chef, Alexandre Katsman, is set to lead culinary operations at the hotel’s landmark site. Chef Katsman, a South Australian native, brings 20 years of experience in dining management and menu design, gathered across premium hotels in South Australia and Tasmania.

The Adelaide Marriott Hotel integrates the city’s heritage with contemporary design, standing as a modern extension to the well-preserved façade of the General Post Office on King William and Franklin Streets. This 150 year old historical site, along with the welcoming of SA Chef Katsman, only means that this establishment will contribute massively to Adelaide’s hospitality scene.

Chef Katsman will take charge of a team comprising 19 chefs. His role extends across two fresh dining venues, multiple kitchens, and the hotel’s conference and events floor.

“I’ve had the privilege of working in many highly regarded hotels and restaurants within Australia but I couldn’t be more thrilled to be in my hometown, driving the dining direction for guests and visitors to the very first flagship Marriott Hotel in Adelaide,” stated Chef Katsman.

Early pictures show the elegant and contemporary decor of the bar, with floor to ceiling windows on one side, and alfresco setting for those wanting to enjoy the city view. Natural wooden tones, bright natural light, and green accents throughout the city bar, highlights Adelaide’s natural beauty.

Exchange Lane will cater to all types of diners in an 88-seat setting that transforms from a vibrant coffee spot by day to a relaxed drink destination by night. This space offers a versatile, all-day dining menu and is designed to connect with both locals and visitors, a perfect bar to be in the heart of the city.

The five-star luxury hotel has required substantial works to ensure the existing historical general post office building can be integrated into the new design. Guests will be able to enjoy a mix of the elegance of the old buildings.
