This October, Ginny Pig Distillery will open a brand-new cellar door in Tooperang, just outside Mount Compass, moving from their former home in the McLaren Vale Visitors Centre. It comes off the back of a string of international wins, including a Platinum and Double Gold at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
“Until now, we’ve only had a temporary space that felt more like a shop,” says co-founder Bec Cooper, who runs the business with her husband Craig.
“This will finally bring everything under one roof. People will be able to see where we make the gin and then taste it on site.”

The new venue has been built directly onto the distillery, and sits on the Coopers’ own four-acre property, a patch of countryside filled with tall trees, native birds and what Bec calls a “legitimate sanctuary.”
“We’ve got these beautiful trees and so many birds around us, and we want to share that with others,” Bec says.
“The whole idea is to create a peaceful, welcoming space where people can come and relax, and feel like they’re stepping into our home.”
The design, led by Steven Henderson of Abitare Interior Design, feels “rustic-industrial,” and outside there’s undercover seating for around 60 people, with lawns for picnics under the trees and space for intimate gatherings.
“We’d love the cellar door to be used for small functions and even micro-weddings,” adds Bec.
The couple’s passion for sustainability runs through the new space. The water from the creek on the property is cleaned and reused in the gin, the acoustic roof panelling is made from bottle tops, and they will introduce a bottle refill program, where empty bottles can be returned and refilled at a reduced price.
Food will be light, simple and thoughtful, with a chef matching the offering as an accessory to the award-winning gins. Charcuterie-style platters, gourmet toasted sandwiches, and butter boards layered with gin botanicals and rustic sourdough.
“They’re like an elevated charcuterie board, but with whipped butter and toppings,” Bec explains. “I think they’ll be perfect alongside a gin and tonic.”
The drinks program will showcase Ginny Pig’s award-winning spirits in flights, cocktails and seasonal serves. The new space has a generously sized bar, so “we’ll be able to put more of a ‘Ginny Pig’ flair on the drinks,” Bec explains.
The cellar door announcement follows a fabulous run on the global stage. The Botanic Gin just picked up Double Gold and Platinum at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, “which has never been achieved by a South Australian distillery before,” Bec says. Their Spiced Fig Gin nabbed Silver.
With a slew of accolades under their belt and an invitation to sip away in a stunning home setting, Ginny Pig is the perfect pit stop for a springtime drive through the Fleurieu.
