COMING SOON: Greek restaurant Ammos to offer authentic cuisine in North Adelaide

New Greek restaurant Ammos will soon serve authentic cuisine on O’Connell Street.

An authentic Greek restaurant with a twist will soon open its doors in the heart of North Adelaide on O’Connell street.

The restaurant, called Ammos, will serve authentic Greek and Cypriot cuisine, with a hidden underground ouzo bar in addition to the main dining area.

Co-owner Savvas Vassiliou shared his excitement about opening the venue, which is a joint venture with his twin brother, Sotiri Vassiliou and Jenay Petropoulos.

“It’s no secret that O’Connell Street needs something new. AMMŌS is that breath of fresh air for North Adelaide. Bringing the feeling of being in Santorini to the Adelaide CBD,” Savvas said.

“AMMŌS will feature live bands performing Traditional Greek Music, crafting a truly unique and immersive ambiance that will transport you to the Islands of Greece.”

“There aren’t any Greek restaurants around North Adelaide, and being a corner block on O’Connell and Ward Street, we want to create a great outdoor dining experience by having the bi-fold doors wide open, especially on a warm summer evening.”

The name Ammos means ‘sand’ in Greek and the venue strives to capture the essence of Greek culture and cuisine in a great atmosphere.

The restaurant will offer a unique and visually captivating dining experience, boasting a classy sandy, cement interior with white/cream rendered walls adorned with beautiful arches.

Greek chefs will be busy in the kitchen serving their authentic food and diners can finish their dining experience with authentic Greek desserts and cakes.

“Adding to the authenticity of the cuisine offered at AMMŌS, we have gone the extra mile by handpicking two highly experienced Head Chefs from Greece. Their culinary expertise, honed by years of crafting traditional Greek dishes, ensures every bite you take at AMMŌS is exquisite and takes you on a journey through the vibrant flavours of Greece and Cyprus.” Savvas said.

The ouzo bar, called Mitilini, will be a haven for ouzo enthusiasts and will further enhance the overall experience for guests, also offering cocktails and platters, so there will be something for everyone.

“In Adelaide, our special venture embraces cultural diversity, reaching out to captivate the hearts of all communities. Drawing inspiration from our traditional Greek roots, we curate an inclusive experience that celebrates the beauty of global traditions,” Savvas said.

“Mitilini by AMMŌS, our underground Ouzo bar, will be available for any type of function or meeting. The Ouzo bar is a unique fit out with arches gives you the feel of Greece.”

The name ‘Mitilini’ pays homage to the birthplace of the purest ouzo, as it originates from the island of Mitilini.

“Adelaide doesn’t have anything like this, it is unique, we just want to bring life back to O’Connell street and Adelaide needed a venue like this,” Savvas said.

WHERE: 22 O’Connell street.
