If your world feels a little topsy-turvy lately, just wait until you step inside Adelaide’s newest attraction. House Down Under, the wildly popular upside-down photo experience that’s already wowed crowds in Sydney and Melbourne, is officially making its South Australian debut—with a quirky new installation opening soon in Kilburn.
The experience is a full-sized house built entirely on its roof.
Floors are ceilings, furniture hangs above your head, and gravity seems to be totally confused. Designed to baffle your senses and level up your photo game, House Down Under is a surreal walk-through experience that’s as fun for families as it is for content creators.

“We had always planned to bring it to Adelaide,” House Down Under General Manager, Osvaldas Anusaitis said.
“We’re aiming for twelve venues across Australia before expanding to New Zealand, and Adelaide was always part of the picture.”
Inspired by a long-running concept in the UK, House Down Under has evolved into a made-for-social-media phenomenon. While the first few houses kept things relatively realistic, Adelaide’s version will be bolder and brighter.
“This one will be more colourful than the others. We’re going with pop colours and giving it a bit more of a vibe. It’s going to stand out,” Osvaldas said.

Visitors can expect more than just flipped furniture. The internal layout plays tricks on your balance with floors that tilt and twist, creating a funhouse-like disorientation that’s all part of the charm.
“Imagine the feeling of being on a boat and then add in the optical illusion of everything being upside down,” he said.
“There’s the sensory experience, then there’s the photography side—like dipping your head into the ceiling toilet.”
Favourite photo spots include the bathroom and the entry nook, both of which offer playful angles and tighter spaces perfect for creative shots.
And while visitors typically spend around 45 minutes inside, the record so far belongs to a family who spent over 90 minutes exploring every possible pose in all three houses across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
There are a few important things to note before you book. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and ticket pricing starts at $19 per person, or $17 each for groups of three or more.
House Down Under is expected to open soon, with the official announcement dropping this Sunday. Once live, bookings can be made via the website.
Next on the cards? Perth, which is already being unpacked and prepped to open after Adelaide. But for now, Kilburn is getting flipped on its head, and we can’t wait to see the photos.
