Dating back to the 1970s, Melbourne milk bars were iconic, suburban corner stores serving as a community hub for milkshakes, lollies and daily newspapers.
The atmosphere of the old corner stores is what Amin Ayoubi had in mind when he first brought Mylk Bar to Adelaide on Flinders Street and from there he opened venues in Waymouth and North Adelaide.
With a history of managing hotels and pubs in Melbourne, Amin is no stranger to juggling multiple venues at once, and this new location will mark his fourth venue in Adelaide.
Located right across the road from Coopers Stadium in Hindmarsh, the venue is positioning itself as a place to meet before games and concerts, and celebrate the win afterwards.

Mylk Bar on Waymouth
The venue’s interior will pretty much mirror that of their Waymouth venue, with a glowing bar through the centre, as well as seated tables and perhaps a couch or two.
“You can come in for a drink around the island bar, or sit down for a quiet dinner, lunch, breakfast, or coffee,” Amin said. “You don’t feel pressured.”
Although the four venues all have something in common, each has its own unique features tailored to the surrounding community. As for what unique feature Mylk Bar will bring to Hindmarsh, you’ll have to wait and see.
The venue is about four times smaller than the Waymouth location, which means it will offer a more intimate experience, while still being available for events and celebrations.
“Waymouth is booked out all the way through to August, that’s how busy we get there,” Amin said. “What we’re seeing is that people who attend functions at one venue then go on to book another Mylk Bar venue for their own event because they liked it so much.”

The growing business and team have also allowed Mylk Bar to expand its catering offering, with food now available for delivery or on-site catering.
“Now that we also offer off-site and on-site catering, it allows us to deliver food for groups and also cater on location,” Amin said.
“We’ve already got about three or four customers in the area, so people obviously love the food, not just the venue.”
Speaking of the food, Mylk Bar traditionally offers the kinds of things you would find at old corner stores: milkshakes, hotdogs, sandwiches and even house-made spaghetti. But the venue has also elevated its offering over the years, with nourishing salad bowls, platters and all the breakfast dishes you’d want on a Sunday morning.
The Mylk Bar in Hindmarsh is expected to open mid May, and for anyone heading to Coopers Stadium this may be the new pre-show hotspot.
