Having opened in April this year, Gilly’s Espresso has been met with a delighted response from Unley locals and business owners. They’ve hit the ground running, serving up customers of Unley’s shopping precinct, The Metro, with great coffee and a fantastic connection with the community.
The team behind it, Little Reds Catering, has decided to expand their offering to the city, with CHPTR 3, opening early December. The brand new cafe will continue the theme of delicious, fresh, local food with ready-to-go brekkie and lunch packs to match the hustle and bustle of the CBD. The cafe will open up on Frome Street, ground floor of the Crowne Plaza.
The “Gilly’s girls” are a super passionate team of mum and four sisters dedicated to serving the freshest local cafe style food along with delicious coffee. The Gilroys consist of mum, Carolyn, and sisters, Charlotte, Victoria, Harriett and Isabelle.

Victoria says, CHPTR 3 will offer “grab and go cafe style offerings, with fresh prepackaged foods from our catering company.” The cafe will offer a range of fresh-daily focaccias, sandos, brekkie muffins, and a whole bunch of coffee.
“We’ll offer wraps, rolls and sandwiches, supplying South Australian products from brands including The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company and Quinzi’s Confectionery,” Victoria says.
The team didn’t initially intend to enter the cafe business, but after opening the Unley Road spot, they felt it was too good to pass up. Victoria says, “Originally we were just looking to expand the kitchen for the catering. I found this space and we thought we’d be crazy not to utilise the kitchen for not just catering but also open a cafe out the front.”
The local community’s response to Gilly’s has been amazing. Victoria says, “businesses around The Metro haven’t had a good, stable cafe in quite a while in this area – and it’s in walking distance.”
“It’s been great for them to send their customers and clients down to us – from people who are shopping in The Metro to people getting their hair done around the corner.”

Gilly’s Espresso serve up a delicious rotation of bagels and sandwiches including the fan favourite, chicken burger bagel, and a pesto, salami, prosciutto, balsamic toastie. The cafe also offers house made pistachio cookies, brekkie brioche rolls, and the immensely popular strawberry matcha.
The family’s ventures have been aptly named to reflect the togetherness of the Gilroys. Victoria says, “my mum, Carolyn, named Little Reds Catering because she had four redhead daughters. Gilly’s comes from our surname Gilroy. That’s why we went with CHPTR 3 because it’s our family’s third story.”
Charlotte will be putting in six day weeks at Gilly’s, while Harriett and Isabelle will take care of CHPTR 3. All the while, Victoria will take care of all the background work. It’s a close-knit team!
Reflecting on working with the family, Victoria says, “of course it has its challenges, but it’s very rewarding in the end to know that everything we do is for each other.”
The family can’t wait to embark on their third adventure, and what better place to do it than in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.
