Popular outer-city cafe g+gracin—which has been serving up delicious coffee, as well as brunch and lunch favourites to locals for years—has recently seen a change in ownership, and with it comes a new name and a completely new look for this Kent Town hot spot.
New owner Megan, who’s currently in the thick of renovations, is excited to give the cafe new life with a new name of Seventy-Eight on Rundle and to be expanding the offering to both locals and all South Australians.

‘We’re currently only open Monday to Friday from 7 am until 3 pm, but once the renovations are complete, we’ll be extending the hours to weekends and also evenings from Wednesday to Sunday nights,’ says Megan. ‘Because of the renovations, we’re currently only offering takeaway outdoor seating options.’
‘The whole feel of the place is changing, and we’re completely gutting the place,’ says Megan. ‘We’re installing a full terrazzo concrete bar at the front, booth seating and green panelling throughout—it’s changing from purely just a cafe spot to include a wine bar vibe in the evenings.’

And besides the big changes indoors, Megan has plans for the outdoor area also.
‘There’s an outdoor area out the back that hasn’t been utilised until now, and so we will be upgrading that into a beer garden area,’ says Megan. ‘We will look potentially having live acoustic style entertainment in the outdoor area, but it will be perfect for the warmer weather and to accommodate larger groups and functions.’
And whilst the menu will still have favourites like popular breakfast dishes, paninis and wraps, there will be some new additions to the menu, with the evening featuring more tapas-style options.

‘At night, it will be really versatile menu of modern Australian fusion dishes that are really designed to be shared,’ says Megan. ‘Our plan is to feature a lot of local wines and beers, as well as some of the state’s finest gins.’
The indoor renovations are expected to be complete by mid-October, with the outdoor area expected by the end of November—just in time for summer.

‘We’re excited to share our new space with the loyal customer base that has been a part of g+gracin for years, as well as welcoming a broader demographic with our new nighttime offering,’ says Megan.
